Ladies and gentlemen, dear
I am very pleased that Bratislava became the organizer of the Junior Four Cities Tournament. It‘s proof that Bratislava is a dynamic city that creates conditions for amateur and professional sport. Our capital sees a variety of big sporting events. Among other this year we organize Ice Hockey World Championship , World Karate Championship, Women´s European Volleyball Championship and European youth Chess Championship.
One of the major sports – cultural role of the capital is to create opportunities for youth to advance in sports, and also to gain experience among the strong international competition. Without comparing and competing on the international sports level it is not possible to move to another success. This kind of event puts pressure on quality and therefore it may be case that among the Tournament participants we will see future Marek Hamšík, who was at this tournament in Ljubljana in 2004 and now is one of the best football players in the world. Maybe we will see here also the future wold champions of the world or olympic winners. Six different sports – football, volleyball, basketball, handball, athletics and table tennis – offers a varied program and Bratislava citizens will be able to choose what interests them the most. In addition to the Four Cities Tournament’s sports nature I appreciate its
socio – cultural benefits. Nowadays we see increased intolerance in the world, and I perceive such international event as the impulse to eliminate barriers and strengthen European identity. I am sure that Bratislava, with its history , will be worthy host of this event.
I wish event’s organizers and the event itself success. I believe that they will continue the tradition of highly professional event and will present Bratislava as a city with a dynamic life, interesting history and a pleasant presence. I wish those involved successful sports performances and I hope they will keep the positive emotions towards our capital, where they began their successful sports career. Last but not least, I wish all delegation members experiences that will inspire them to return to Bratislava at least one more time.
